Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs ribeye steak or skirt steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls or soft sub rolls
  • 1 tbsp softened butter
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or 4 slices American cheese
  • Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, sliced jalapeños, hot sauce, mayonnaise, or ketchup

Instructions

  • Place the steak in the freezer for 30-45 minutes to firm up for easier slicing
  • Thinly slice steak against the grain to ensure tenderness
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet; sauté onions and peppers until caramelized
  • Remove onions and peppers from skillet
  • Add remaining oil and steak, season with salt and pepper; cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the steak
  • Toasted hoagie rolls by spreading butter on the inside and cooking in the skillet until crispy
  • Add cheese slices to rolls and assemble with steak and caramelized vegetables

Notes

Freezing makes slicing steak easier
Adjust cheese to melt fully but avoid melting into liquid
Optional toppings vary per preference
