Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp hot honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (ensure halal-certified)
  • 1 tbsp A1 steak sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice

Instructions

  • Combine blackberries, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, hot honey, and jalapeño in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 6-8 minutes until mixture thickens slightly.
  • Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, A1 steak sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
  • Blend sauce until smooth using an immersion blender or regular blender.
  • Strain through a fine sieve to remove seeds and bits.

Notes

Use halal-certified Worcestershire sauce for dietary compliance.
Remove jalapeño seeds for milder heat.
Store in airtight containers for up to 2 weeks.
Freezes well for up to 6 months.
Frozen blackberries (thawed) can be used for year-round batches.
