Ingredients

  • 3 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or apple cider (non-alcoholic)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thicker sauce)

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
  • Whisk together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Stir in lemon juice, apple juice, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour spiced sugar mixture over apples in the slow cooker and toss to coat.
  • Scatter butter slices over the apples.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours.
  • If using cornstarch, mix with 1 tablespoon cold water and stir in during last 30 minutes. Cover and let thicken.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

For a spicier blend, add 1/4 teaspoon cloves. Serve over pancakes, waffles, or with pork-free sausage. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
