Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 6 large flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  • Cook the beef and veggies: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, diced onion, and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and veggies are softened, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess grease from the pan.
  • Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Create the Sloppy Joe sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and ketchup. Add the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  • Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer, uncovered, for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally until the sauce thickens and coats the beef beautifully.
  • Assemble burritos: Lay out a flour tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon a generous portion of the Sloppy Joe filling onto the center of the tortilla. Top with about ¼ cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Fold and roll: Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll tightly from one end to form a burrito. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
  • Brush with butter and grill: Brush the outside of each burrito lightly with melted butter. Place them on a preheated grill or skillet over medium heat and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
