Ingredients

  • 15.25 ounces vanilla cake mix
  • 12 ounces orange soda
  • 1 teaspoon pure orange extract
  • 24 ounces whipped white frosting (two 12-ounce containers)
  • 2 to 3 drops orange gel food color

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment circles and lightly spray with baking spray.
  • Add cake mix to a bowl. Pour orange soda over the cake mix, then add orange extract. Mix on medium-low speed for 1 to 1.5 minutes until smooth.
  • Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 22 to 24 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes away clean.
  • Cool cakes completely. Place 1 container of frosting in a bowl, add 2 to 3 drops of orange gel food color, and stir until uniform.
  • Position one cake on a serving dish, spread the colored frosting over the top, then carefully layer the second cake. Spread the remaining frosting over the top and sides.
  • Using a star tip, pipe decorative rose shapes around the cake’s edge.

Notes

Use room-temperature ingredients for even mixing. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light.
For healthier options, use sugar-free orange soda and light whipped frosting.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
