Ingredients

  • 2 lbs halal ground beef, browned and drained
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon halal-certified Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow/Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Soft sandwich buns

Instructions

  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  • Dice the onion and green bell pepper evenly for uniform texture.
  • In a crockpot, combine cooked beef, veggies, tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, allowing flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken.
  • Serve warm on soft buns, optionally toasting the buns for extra crunch.

Notes

For a meatless version, substitute ground beef with plant-based crumbles. Adjust cooking time if using HIGH setting (2–3 hours). To prevent greasy results, drain the beef thoroughly after browning.
