Ingredients

  • 1 (2-pound) bag Walmart brand seasoned fries
  • 1 pound lean ground hamburger meat
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 ounce)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheddar-Monterey Jack blend)
  • Optional toppings: sliced jalapeños, chopped green onions, diced tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole

Instructions

  • Preheat oven for fries as per package instructions (typically 425°F / 220°C)
  • Spread fries on baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway for crispiness
  • Heat skillet over medium heat and brown ground beef, breaking apart with spatula for 7-8 minutes
  • Drain excess fat, add taco seasoning and 2/3 cup water, simmer 3-4 minutes until thickened
  • Transfer baked fries to oven-safe dish, top with beef mixture, then sprinkle cheese over fries and meat
  • Return to oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly
  • Add optional toppings before serving

Notes

Use an oven-safe baking dish instead of a sheet for even melting
Skip meat for vegetarian version using roasted veggies
Add canned black beans for extra protein
Freezes well for 2-3 months in airtight containers
