Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (halal if preferred)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 2 cups frozen hash browns (shredded or diced)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Non-stick cooking spray or butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
  • Cook the ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are softened. Drain excess grease.
  • Prepare the creamy sauce by combining the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese in a bowl and mix until smooth.
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
  • Layer the frozen hash browns at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Add the cooked ground beef and onion mixture evenly over the hash browns.
  • Spread the creamy mushroom and sour cream sauce over the beef layer.
  • Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden.

For a halal option, ensure the ground beef is halal-certified.
For a dairy-free version, substitute the sour cream and cheddar cheese with dairy-free alternatives.
