Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • ½ green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon halal Worcestershire sauce (alcohol-free)
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 soft white hamburger buns

Instructions

  • Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula
  • Drain excess grease from the skillet
  • Cook onions and bell peppers for 4-5 minutes until softened and fragrant
  • Add tomato sauce, ketchup, halal Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper—mix thoroughly
  • Simmer on low heat, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes until the sauce thickens
  • Spoon mixture onto buns and serve immediately
