Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 4 cups water
  • Pretzel salt or coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Brown ground beef in a skillet until fully cooked,-drain excess grease, and stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
  • Flatten biscuit dough into 4-inch circles
  • Place 1 tbsp beef mixture and 1–2 tbsp cheese in each dough circle
  • Fold dough to form balls, sealing edges tightly
  • Mix 4 cups water and 1/4 cup baking soda in a pot; simmer
  • Submerge dough balls in the pot for 20–30 seconds
  • Roll each dough ball in beaten egg and sprinkle with pretzel salt
  • Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown

Notes

Ensure biscuit dough contains no pork or lard. For halal kitchens, confirm beef and cheese meet halal standards. Serve with optional toppings like lettuce or tomato slices for extra flavor.
