Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup dill pickle juice
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 6 sesame seed buns
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 12 dill pickle slices

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and ground beef. Break up the meat and season with salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook until about 75% done.
  • Drain excess grease if needed. Add pickle juice, ketchup, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, mustard, sweet relish, and chopped pickles. Stir well and simmer uncovered for 7-10 minutes until sauce thickens.
  • Place American cheese slices on top of the meat mixture, cover with a lid, turn off heat and let cheese melt.
  • Lightly toast sesame seed buns under the broiler for 2-5 minutes.
  • Add shredded lettuce to the bottom bun, spoon about 3/4 cup of the sloppy joe mixture on top, add pickle slices and extra lettuce, then place the top bun on.

Notes

Use high-quality ingredients for enhanced flavor and texture.
Don't overcook the ground beef to prevent dryness.
Let the mixture simmer fully to develop depth of flavor.
Use a thermometer to ensure beef reaches 160°F.
Toast buns fresh before assembly for optimal crispiness.
For a healthier version, use whole wheat buns and reduce mayonnaise by 30%.
Substitute American cheese with provolone or mozzarella for halal options.
