Ingredients :
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar (optional, for extra lift)
- ¾ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for richer flavor)
Instructions :
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar.
- Add the cold butter pieces and cut them into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and milk together, then pour into the flour mixture. Stir just until combined—don’t overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 4–5 times. Pat or roll it to about 1-inch thickness.
- Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam.
