The Best Homemade Biscuits

Ingredients :

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (e.g., King Arthur)

  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar

  • ½ tsp sea salt

  • 4 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp cream of tartar (optional lift)

  • ¾ cup cold European-style butter (cut into cubes)

  • 1 large pasture-raised egg

  • 1 cup whole milk or cultured buttermilk

Instructions : 

  1. Prep:
    Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Dry Mix:
    Whisk flour, sugar, saltbaking powder, and cream of tartar in large mixing bowl.

  3. Cut Butter:
    Add cold butter cubes → cut in with pastry cutter until pea-sized crumbs form.

  4. Wet Mix:
    Beat egg + milk/buttermilk → gently stir into flour mix just until combined.

  5. Shape:
    Turn onto floured surface → knead 4-5 times → pat to 1″ thickness.
    Cut with biscuit cutter → place on sheet touching for soft sides.

  6. Bake:
    12-15 mins until golden → serve warm with honey or jam.
