Texas Firecrackers

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12 oz.) box of crackers – Saltines or Ritz-style
  • ¾ cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 3 tbsp crushed red chili flakes (adjust for heat preference)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spice Mix:
    • In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the olive oil, Italian seasoning, and chili flakes until well blended.
  2. Coat the Crackers:
    • Place the crackers into a large gallon-size ziplock bag or an airtight container.
    • Pour the spice mixture evenly over the crackers.
  3. Mix Thoroughly:
    • Seal the bag or container and gently turn it over and over to coat all the crackers with the oil and spice mix.
    • Continue turning every 5 minutes for about 20–30 minutes, until the crackers are fully coated and most of the oil has been absorbed.
  4. Let Them Rest:
    • Leave the bag sealed and let the crackers sit for at least 4 hours (overnight is best!) to soak in the flavors.
  5. Serve and Store:
    • Enjoy as a spicy snack or appetizer. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week.
