Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract (optional)
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- Red sanding sugar
- Green sanding sugar
- Gold sanding sugar
- White granulated sugar
- Silver or gold dragees / micro nonpareils
Instructions:
- Beat softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix to combine.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt, then mix into the butter mixture on low until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap and chill the dough for 20–30 minutes.
- Prepare bowls of red, green, gold sanding sugar, and granulated sugar.
- Scoop 1 tbsp dough, roll into a 6-inch rope, then cut in half.
- Roll one half in a sanding sugar color of your choice.
- Twist the colored rope with the plain rope and form a wreath; press ends to seal.
- Lightly roll edges in granulated sugar and add dragees on top.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, keeping the tops pale. Cool completely.
