- 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 works best)
- ¼ cup bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter, for frying
For the Onion Gravy
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into oval patties.
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook for 5–7 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until the gravy thickens.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10–12 minutes until the patties are cooked through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot.
