Southern Style Collard Greens

Ingredients:

  • 2 sweet onions, finely diced
  • 2 smoked ham hocks
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth (enough to cover)
  • 2 lbs collard greens (packaged or fresh, cleaned and trimmed)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
    (Optional: a pinch of cayenne for a spicy kick)

Instructions:

  1. In a large stockpot, combine onions, ham hocks, and garlic. Pour in enough chicken broth to cover.
  2. Simmer over medium heat until the ham meat is tender and nearly falling off the bone (about 1–1½ hours).
  3. Add collard greens, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  4. Continue cooking for another 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the greens are soft and flavorful.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve hot with cornbread for a true Southern meal!
