Old-Fashioned Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients :

  • For the filling:
    • 4 cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 2 tbsp cornstarch

    For the cobbler topping:

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
    • 1/2 cup whole milk
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
    • Optional: 1 tbsp coarse sugar for sprinkling

    Instructions : 

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
    2. In a saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly, about 5–7 minutes. Pour into baking dish.
    3. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until crumbly.
    4. Stir in milk and vanilla just until combined.
    5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the cherry mixture, leaving space for bubbling. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if using.
    6. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
    7. Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm.
