French Silk Brownies

Ingredients:

Brownies

  • 1 box brownie mix (dry, not prepared)
  • 1 large egg
  • 5½ tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk

French Silk Layer

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip, thawed

Topping

  • 8 ounces Cool Whip, thawed
  • Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 11×7-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine brownie mix, egg, melted butter, and milk. Stir until smooth. Spread batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Bake for 25–28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow brownies to cool completely.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Add powdered sugar and mix until fully combined.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the semi-sweet chocolate and cubed butter in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the melted chocolate mixture to the cream cheese mixture and mix until well combined. Gently fold in the Cool Whip.
  7. Spread the French silk layer evenly over the cooled brownies. Top with the remaining Cool Whip.
  8. If desired, sprinkle chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips over the top.
  9. Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
