CREAMED CHIPPED BEEF ON TOAST IS A FORGOTTEN CLASSIC

Ingredients :

  • 1 jar dried beef slices, rinsed well & chopped

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

  • 2 cups milk

  • Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

  • Toasted bread, for serving

Instructions :

  1. Prep the Beef
    Rinse the dried beef slices thoroughly under cold water to reduce the saltiness. Pat dry using paper towels, then chop into small, bite-sized pieces.

  2. Make the Roux
    In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper, then whisk using a balloon whisk for about 45 seconds until smooth and lightly cooked.

  3. Add the Milk
    Slowly pour in the milk while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Stir until smooth and combined.

  4. Add the Beef
    Stir in the chopped dried beef and let the mixture simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  5. Season & Serve
    Taste and adjust seasoning with sea salt and cracked black pepper, if needed.
    Spoon generously over slices of dry toasted bread and serve immediately.
