Buttermilk Beignets 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to ¼-inch thick and cut into squares.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet.
  6. Fry beignets in batches for 1–2 minutes per side or until golden.
  7. Drain on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar.

Timing:

  • Prep: 15 mins
  • Cook: 10 mins
  • Total: 25 mins

Servings: 10
Calories: ~210 per beignet

Serve warm, fresh out of the fryer and don’t forget the powdered sugar mountain on top!
