Ingredients:
For the Cake
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
- Ingredients listed on the cake box (eggs, oil, water)
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Caramel Layer
- 1 bag soft caramels (about 11 oz)
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
Pecan Layer
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Chocolate Topping (Optional)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips, melted
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions.
Prepare the cake batter as directed on the box. Stir in 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips. - Bake Half the Batter:
Pour half of the cake batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
Bake for about 15 minutes, just until set but not fully baked. - Make the Caramel Layer:
In a saucepan over low heat, melt the soft caramels with evaporated milk. Stir until smooth. - Assemble the Turtle Layer:
Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the partially baked cake.
Sprinkle chopped pecans over the caramel.
Carefully spoon the remaining cake batter on top. - Bake:
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes, or until the cake is fully baked. - Optional Topping:
Drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled cake for extra richness. - Serve:
Allow to cool before slicing for clean layers.
