Ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed
- ¾ cup cold buttermilk
For the Sausage Gravy:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Directions :
1. Make the Biscuits:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently 2–3 times, and pat into a 1-inch thick round.
- Cut out biscuits using a round cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
2. Make the Gravy:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat evenly.
- Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
3. Serve:
Split the warm biscuits in half and spoon the sausage gravy over the top. Serve immediately.
