Amish Applesauce Cake

 

Ingredients:

  • Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups applesauce
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Fold in nuts if using.
  5. Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cake to cool completely.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle glaze over cooled cake.
  9. Slice and serve.
