Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk (plus extra if needed)
1/2 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the cooked sausage and shredded cheese (if using).
Add the buttermilk and gently stir just until the dough comes together. Don’t overmix. - Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Serve warm perfect on their own or with gravy!
