Fried Cabbage with Shrimp, Sausage & Bacon

Ingredients:

  • 5 slices of bacon, chopped
  • ½ cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 10–12 shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails off
  • 1 link kielbasa or smoked sausage, cut into ½-inch slices
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning (like Old Bay or Cajun blend)
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Bacon:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy.
    • Remove bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the skillet.
  2. Sauté the Onion & Sausage:
    • Add chopped onions and sliced sausage to the skillet.
    • Sauté until the onions are soft and sausage is browned, about 4–5 minutes.
  3. Add the Cabbage:
    • Stir in the shredded cabbage.
    • Add 1 tablespoon olive oil if the pan is too dry.
    • Season with seafood seasoning and smoked paprika.
    • Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until the cabbage softens and starts to brown.
  4. Cook the Shrimp:
    • Add shrimp to the skillet.
    • Stir everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes until shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.
  5. Finish & Serve:
    • Add the crispy bacon back to the skillet and give it one final stir.
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed (add a dash of hot sauce for a kick ).

Serving Tip:
Delicious on its own, or served over rice, grits, or mashed potatoes!
