Ingredients:
Sausage Filling
- 500 g sausage mince or pork mince
- 1 small brown onion, finely grated
- 1 small carrot, finely grated
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Pastry
- 3 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
Egg Wash
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
Optional Topping
- Sesame seeds or poppy seeds
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Filling
In a large bowl, combine the sausage mince, grated onion, grated carrot, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined but do not overwork the mixture.
2. Prepare the Pastry
Preheat the oven to 200°C fan forced.
Line two baking trays with baking paper.
Cut each puff pastry sheet in half to create rectangles.
3. Shape the Sausage Rolls
Place a log of filling along one long edge of each pastry piece.
Roll the pastry over the filling to enclose it tightly.
Brush the edge lightly with egg wash to seal.
Cut each long roll into your desired lengths.
4. Finish and Bake
Place the rolls seam-side down on the prepared trays.
Brush the tops with egg wash.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if using.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
To Serve
Serve warm with tomato sauce or chutney.
