Ingredients:
- Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups applesauce
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
- Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Fold in nuts if using.
- Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cake to cool completely.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle glaze over cooled cake.
- Slice and serve.
