Grilled Cheese Sandwich: The Golden Classic of Comfort Food

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
  • 2–3 slices cheese (American, cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1–2 tablespoons butter, softened

Optional Add-Ins

  • Sliced tomato or avocado
  • Cooked bacon or ham
  • Caramelized onions or sautéed mushrooms
  • Garlic powder or dried herbs (mixed into the butter)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread
    Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread. For extra flavor, mix a small pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs into the butter.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich
    Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, into a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Layer the cheese evenly on top, then add any optional fillings if using. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Grill
    Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted. Reduce heat if the bread browns too quickly.
  4. Serve
    Remove from the skillet, let rest for 1 minute, slice, and serve warm.
