- 3/4 cup milk

Directions:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and lump-free.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off.
- Pipe small rounds or short swirls of batter directly into the hot oil.
- Fry for 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar while warm.
