Ingredients:
For the Cake
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup Coca-Cola (regular, not diet)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Frosting
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup Coca-Cola
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add melted butter, Coca-Cola, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in cocoa powder and Coca-Cola. Bring just to a gentle boil, then remove from heat.
- Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly. Allow to set before slicing.
