Butter Earthquake Cake

Ingredients:

Cake Base

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box chocolate cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

Peanut Butter Layer

  • 1 block (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Add-Ins

  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, prepare the chocolate cake mix by mixing the eggs, oil, and water until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  3. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter until creamy. Add the powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate cake batter. Do not mix; leave it uneven so it forms the “earthquake” effect while baking.
  5. Sprinkle peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, and chopped Reese’s cups evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is mostly set.
  7. Cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
