Biscuits and Gravy

Ingredients:

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions :

1. Make the Biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently 2–3 times, and pat into a 1-inch thick round.
  6. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.

2. Make the Gravy:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat evenly.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
  4. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

3. Serve:
Split the warm biscuits in half and spoon the sausage gravy over the top. Serve immediately.
